Our itinerary for this bicycle tour will take you to the most popular towns and villages from Florence to Siena. It is a line tour that starts in Florence, cross the Chianti and arrive to Montepulciano after 7 days of riding.
This Tuscany bike tour is designed ensuring that you soak up as much of the culture and nature of Tuscany, however, you decide how many km extra you want to ride. You will find all info in the file you'll receive upon confirmation of the Tour.
Our itinerary for the Tuscan Cities bicycle tour
Day 1 - Arrival in Florence, sleep in Florence
Your first night in your departure point...have a nice evening stroll in the surrounding neighborhood and feel the animated, yet peaceful ambient of the Tuscan cities. Restaurants and trattoria are quietly fulfilled with locals and tourists, a charming, multicultural blend of people looking for the same, a taste of the superb local cuisine and the peace and magic of a place full of history... Afterwards, relax in your charming room, have a nice hot shower and a good night's rest before your tour starts...
Day 2 - Florence town, sleep in Florence
Take a day cycle ride in central Florence. Ride along the riverside, downside roads and alley ways through central Florence, bikes in Florence can ride everywhere included ZTL areas. Stop along the way to admire the amazing reinassance architecture achievement, cross the river and get into the narrow streets.. You will be able to admire masterpieces like Basilica di Santa Croce, Il Duomo, Basilica di Santa Maria Novella, Piazza Michelangelo and many others.
This day is flexible, not mandatory, you can direct start with day 3.
Day 3 - Florence to San Gimignano
The day begins with a scenic ride alongside the beautiful Volterrana road, the delightful landscape of the Chianti area, a constellation of small medieval villages, vineyards and olive groves. You will ride through the town of Montespertoli towards Certaldo, the native town of the renowed Italian poet Boccaccio, a beautiful town perched on top of a hill with amazing views and awesome scenery. Riding past Certaldo, across the vineyards of some of the best wines of the Chianti, you will continue to San Gimignano and its towers, a well known landmark and perphaps the most iconic image town of Tuscany.

Day 4 - From San Gimignano, to Radda
Leaving San Gimignano, there will be a nice ride through a panoramic local road towards the village of Colle Val d'Elsa, with a history stretching back to the 9th Century AD. The oldest part of Colle has narrow paved lanes, magnificent 15th and 16th-century noble houses (notable are Palazzo Luci, Palazzo Morozzi, Palazzo Giusti, Palazzo Dini), and fascinating tower-houses. Next stop will be at Monteriggioni, the town Dante referred in the Divine Comedy, an imposing fortress which still retains the medieval atmosphere. From there to Radda, passing through Castellina, two renowed wine towns of the Chianti area.

Day 5 - Radda to Siena
From Radda, you'll be passing through the area known as "Chianti Classico", a unique landscape, with green, gentle hills covered with wide fields of vineyards and olive groves, small stone villages, characteristic parishes and countryside homes in stone. A stop at Gaiole to ride to the Parish Church of Spaltenna, displaying a valuable 15th century crucifix, the Castle of Vertine,a small medieval walled village, and the Abbey of Coltibuono, a former monastery now turned into a wine estate. Leaving Gaiole, you continue the journey crossing the Chianti Classico vineyards towards the medieval Siena. You will have time to dive in the old city centre to admire the splendid palaces and the marvelous Cathedral which you can visit inside, including the Libreria Piccolomini and the adjacent Museo dell'Opera Metropolitana and behind the Duomo, the Baptistery and the Cripta di San Giovanni. Continue to Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful in the world with the majestic Palazzo Comunale, go up the Mangia Towner and admire the wonderful views of the town.

Day 6 - Siena to montalcino
You will leave Siena by the beautiful, panoramic local road "Strada delle Ville", a ride absolutely stunning, grain fields, cypress lines and local farmhouses along the route to Montalcino with stops at Murlo and Buoncovento. Visit the historical center of Montalcino and explore the local crafts and products, you can also stop at the old town wine shop for a tasting of the superb wines of the area.

Day 7 - From montalcino to montepulciano
Departing from Montalcino, on the road to Montepulciano you'll be crossing the beautiful Tuscan gems of San Quirico, the Thermal village of bagno Vignoni and Pienza. It will be a ride a nice ride through quiet roads across the scenic landscape of the Val D'Orcia area, Natural and Cultural Park added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites because of the excellent preservation of the landscape which inspired so many Renaissance artists.

Day 8 - departure
While taking a nice cappuccino, let the memories of this Tour come back to your mind..then pack your baggage..we hope you enjoyed your stay !

Our tours depart any day from March 15th to Oct 31st. We recommend to book in advance, however, reservations must be made at least 3 days before departure date.

No, the total expense of the Tour must be paid at the moment of the reservation.

A.Our bicycle tours are designed for a minimum of 2 people and multiples of 2 travelling.
It will be your personal Tour and therefore you will be on your own.
Q. Do you accept groups ?
A. Yes, we are happy to accept groups on our tours. Discounts are available, check out the prices table or email for more information.
Q. Where does the "Cycling the Tuscan cities" depart from?
A. The Tour is scheduled to depart from Florence and arrive to Pienza. In the event that you need to invert arrival/departure points, that will not be possible.
Q. Can I bring my own bike?
A. We suggest you to bring your own bike and have it thoroughly checked in advance by a competent bike mechanic.
Q. What bikes do you rent?
A. You can rent a bike from us (and, if you wish, bring along your clipless pedals or favorite bike seat ). We rent different types of bikes, contact us for more information.
Q. Where do I drop off the bike when I finalise the Tour ?
A. If you rent the bike with us, we can deliver the bycicle back to Florence, this will have an extra cost. If you need a transfer to Florence or Siena, this will have an extra cost. If you have your own bike and need a transfer to another town, airport or train station, contact us for more information.
Q. What if my bike breaks down?
A. Outside the city centres there are few cycle shops. We advise you to carry a reasonable tool kit and basic spares such as patches, inner tubes, brake blocks and cables with you.
Q. Will my bicycle be secure at night?
A. All our accommodation partners have been selected with bike security in mind. We do, however, recommend that you bring your own disc locks or security chains for peace of mind.
Q. How do I get to the Tour departure point and leave from the arrival point ? Do you pick up from airports, train stations or hotels ?

Q. How much luggage can we bring on the tours ?
A. Your luggage will be transfered from one hotel to another, it is allowed one full-sized suitcase per person, extra pieces will have extra charges.

Q. Do I need to be a strong cyclist to enjoy this tour ?
A. Not at all! You'll cycle at your own pace so it can be as easy as you want.
Hills are an essential part of the beauty of Tuscany, so, if you come from less undulant areas, you should keep that in mind. We carefully plan the routes so that they can be enjoyed by everyone.
Q. Will it be easy for me to get an evening meal?
A. Your accommodation will be within easy walking distance of a Trattoria or Restaurant so you’ll be able to taste the renowed wines and delicious tuscan cuisine.
Q. What should we wear?
A. For most of the time, you will be biking amidst nature, we recommend you bring suitable clothing and footwear (flat shoes) for your tour, including waterproof clothing when touring during spring and autumn.
